Description of Chateau Beausejour 2023

Chateau Beausejour 2023 – a Fine and Aromatic Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

The Estate

Château Beausejour has been recognized since the inception of the Saint-Émilion classification. A family property since 1847, this Premier Grand Cru Classé of the renowned appellation on Bordeaux’s right bank was acquired in April 2021 by the Courtin-Clarins family in partnership with Joséphine Duffau-Lagarosse.

The Vineyard

Château Beausejour’s 6.80-hectare vineyard, with 6.20 hectares currently in production, features old vines averaging 45 years of age. These vines are planted on a mosaic of terroirs with clay-limestone soils over asteriated limestone. Rooted on the hillside of the medieval city, the vineyard is managed using traditional and mostly manual methods.

The Wine

The 2023 vintage is the last to be produced in the estate’s historic vat room before its replacement with a state-of-the-art facility in 2024.

The Vintage

Early year mildness fostered excellent flowering and vegetative growth, suggesting generous yields. Summer brought unstable weather, followed by high heat from mid-August and a particularly favorable late season. The harvest, lasting 9 days, was the longest in the estate’s history.

Vinification and Ageing

The harvest is conducted manually with intra-parcel selection to ensure optimal maturity. The wine is aged for 14 to 16 months in barrels, 63% of which are new.

Blend

Chateau Beauséjour 2023 is a blend of Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%).
