The freshness and fruity framework of a Saint-Julien red wine

The estate: Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou, the emblematic Cru Classé of Saint-Julien, presides over a prestigious terroir. Over the past three centuries, six families have united to maintain the shine of this Cru, renowned worldwide for its unparalleled reputation. Owned by the Borie family since 1941, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou derives its name from its “beautiful pebbles” (beau caillou) terroir of Günzian gravel. Under the management of Bruno Borie, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou stands among the elite of Saint-Julien’s exceptional red wines, consistently delighting aficionados of fine Médoc wines across the globe.

The vineyard: Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou’s distinction lies in the exceptional quality of its vineyards. The vines are rooted in soils of Günzian and Pyrenean gravel, deposited by the Gironde estuary nearly two million years ago. These impoverished soils yield outstanding Saint-Julien wines.

The vintage: The winter saw ample rainfall, replenishing the soil’s water reserves. Spring and summer were marked by drought and intense heat. Elevated temperatures in May facilitated early and swift flowering and fruit set. The scorching, arid conditions in August slowed veraison but were balanced by rainfall, fostering vineyard health and promoting ripening.

Winemaking and ageing: Fermentation occurs in state-of-the-art conical wooden vats. Gentle and automatic pump-overs can be fractionated over 24 hours. Aging lasts for 18 months.

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 2022 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (82%) and Merlot (18%).
