Description Chateau Haut-Bailly 2023

The Chateau Haut-Bailly 2023 vintage of Château Haut-Bailly promises to evoke the same deep emotions. The past year in the vineyard has been a true odyssey, marked by challenges and triumphs navigated with the dedication and skill of our team.

Climatic Conditions

After the particularly hot and dry conditions of 2022, 2023 began on a cooler note. Winter pruning took place in frosty conditions, sometimes even in the snow. Early spring frost was avoided, giving way to mild and eventually warm temperatures. Flowering occurred between May 22 and June 10 under favorable conditions. June and July brought tropical weather, marked by significant mildew pressure. The estate’s winemakers, drawing on lessons from the 2018, 2020, and 2021 vintages, managed to contain it effectively. The remainder of the summer featured high, sometimes extreme, temperatures from mid-August to the end of September, reminiscent of an odyssey with the lush green foliage replacing the blue Ionian Sea.

The 2023 vintage is characterized by significant temperature variations and diverse climatological conditions, akin to those encountered on a long journey.

The satisfaction of overcoming adversity is reflected in the creation of a wine that is both full-bodied and opulent, fresh and pure, shaped by the year’s varied meteorological conditions. The Merlots, of a quality on par with 2022, exhibit modern roundness and charm. The Cabernets shine with classic beauty and purity. Spanning from antiquity to the present day, this is the journey the 2023 vintage invites us to embark upon.

Harvest Dates: September 11 to 29.
