The refinement and balance of a Pessac-Leognan Grand Cru Classé

The estate: Adjacent to the renowned Château Haut-Brion, Château La Mission Haut-Brion has stood as an iconic Bordeaux wine estate for centuries. Established in the 16th century by the de Lestonnac family and later managed by Lazarist priests, the estate is now under the ownership of Clarence Dillon and Prince Robert de Luxembourg. Château La Mission Haut-Brion continues to shine among the world’s finest wines.

The vineyard: Situated in the communes of Talence and Pessac, Château La Mission Haut-Brion boasts a vineyard planted on fine gravel soils atop a subsoil of clay, sand, limestone, and falun (a shell limestone). The vines of Château de La Mission Haut-Brion yield exceptional Pessac-Léognan wines.

The vintage: Winter began with abundant rainfall, beneficial for replenishing water reserves, followed by mild temperatures from February onwards that prompted early budburst. Minimal impact from April frost was followed by a gentle May, resulting in uniform and high-quality flowering. Despite enduring three waves of summer heat, the vines thrived thanks to expert team management and viticultural adjustments. A rain shower on August 13 rejuvenated the vineyard. Despite smaller-sized grapes, the quality remained excellent.

Winemaking and ageing: The wine underwent ageing in barrels (62.2% new).

Blend

  • Cabernet Sauvignon (51.7%)
  • Merlot (43.2%)
  • Cabernet Franc (5.1%)
