Description of Chateau La Mondotte 2023

Chateau La Mondotte 2023 is truly exceptional, arguably one of the finest Mondottes I’ve ever tasted. This wine brims with vertical, explosive energy, captivating from the very first sip. Inky dark fruit, mocha, lavender, new leather, spice, and dried herbs unfold as this dynamic, complex Saint-Émilion reveals its remarkable character. Simply superb.

Created in the early 19th century, Chateau La Mondotte is a modest property within the Saint-Emilion appellation, owned by Count von Neipperg, who also owns the neighboring Château Canon la Gaffelière. This small 4.5-hectare estate has always been renowned for producing extraordinarily opulent, colorful, and robust wines. The unique terroir imparts these wines with incomparable finesse. With a rare vintage yielding a maximum of 11,000 bottles per year, Château La Mondotte is highly coveted. In 2012, during the latest classification review, it was elevated to 1st Grand Cru Classé B of Saint-Emilion. The vineyard is planted with 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, with vines averaging 50 years of age.
