The character and elegance of a Pauillac Grand Cru Classé

The estate: Situated at the entrance of Pauillac, Château Lynch-Bages is a domain that has left an indelible mark on Médoc’s history. While the Bages terroir has been recognized since the 16th century, it wasn’t until the 18th century that it truly gained prominence. Under the leadership of Thomas Lynch, son of an Irishman, Bages earned acclaim at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. Acquired by the J-M Cazes family just before World War II, Château Lynch-Bages stands as one of the finest landmarks in the Pauillac appellation.

Driven by a relentless pursuit of excellence and innovation, in 2006 Château Lynch-Bages embarked on a comprehensive reorganization of its plots, dividing 90 original cadastral parcels into 180 to 200 sub-plots. The 2020 vintage marked the inauguration of the brand-new facilities at Château Lynch-Bages. Designed by renowned architect Chien Chung (Didi) Pei, known for his refined architectural style, the new vat room and ageing cellar represent cutting-edge tools crafted to showcase the very essence of this iconic Pauillac estate’s terroir.

The vineyard: Chateau Lynch-Bages 2022 is a Pauillac wine cultivated in a 105-hectare vineyard nestled in Garonne gravel. The vineyard is meticulously divided into plots using satellite technology, preserving the estate’s genetic heritage. The uniform geology of the terroir ensures optimal water supply for the vines in an area blessed with a temperate climate.

The vintage: The year was defined by extreme weather patterns, from a chilly winter to a scorching, arid summer. Nonetheless, the vines adeptly adapted, yielding an extraordinary vintage. The vegetative cycle progressed precociously throughout the year, culminating in grapes attaining peak ripeness.

Winemaking and ageing: Handpicked with rigorous sorting in the vineyard and on sorting tables. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 75% of which were new.

Blend: Château Lynch-Bages 2022 is crafted from a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (66%), complemented by Merlot (28%), Petit Verdot (3%), and Cabernet Franc (3%).
