Description of La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou 2023

La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou 2023 – A mild winter facilitated early budburst on March 28. The hot, dry conditions in May were particularly favorable for flowering and fruit set. Flowering began early and rapidly on May 22, indicating high potential for both volume and quality. Throughout the summer, persistent tropical humidity posed a mildew threat. To counter this, strategic leaf-thinning and green harvesting measures were implemented, effectively managing yields and ensuring the fruit ripened perfectly.

Veraison started on the Beaucaillou plateau on July 25. By mid-August, the humidity had dissipated, ushering in a period of warm, dry weather that lasted until September 10. Consistently high temperatures in late August and early September created exceptional ripening conditions. These higher temperatures, without reaching heatwave peaks, continued throughout the harvest, ensuring freshness and promoting optimal ripeness.

The wine is deep purple with pronounced aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry, complemented by hints of graphite, cocoa, and black licorice. On the palate, it is full-bodied with a firm core of fine, polished tannins, enveloped by densely concentrated, beautifully defined fruit, resulting in a voluptuous, supple texture. The wine develops progressively on the palate, leading to a finely balanced, persistent finish with a touch of graphite.

Aging: 12 months

Harvest: September 8 to October 3
