The freshness and complexity of a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

The estate: As Saint-Émilion’s Premier Grand Cru Classé, Château Valandraud is one of the finest estates in the appellation.

The vineyard: Chateau Valandraud’s vineyards are situated on clay-limestone and siliceous-gravel soils. Spread across 6.6 hectares, these vines are dedicated to producing Saint-Émilion wine, with an average vine age of 30 years.

The vintage: A mild, dry winter preceded an early April marked by a few frosts, which had no impact on the vineyards. Despite low rainfall, the clay-limestone soils allowed the vines to retain moisture, preventing water stress. Despite their small size, the berries were harvested at optimum ripeness.

Winemaking and ageing: The grapes are harvested by hand and aged for 18 to 22 months in 100% new barrels.

Blend

  • Merlot (88%)
  • Cabernet Franc (6%)
  • Cabernet Sauvignon (6%)
